The Orange County Sheriff’s Office has been re-accredited by the state and national accrediting organizations for another three years, a statement from the Sheriff’s Office said on Monday. The re-accreditations come with special commendation, never before granted.
The Commission for Florida Law Enforcement Accreditation in addition to re-accrediting the agency for three more years, also awarded the Orange County Sheriff’s Office with the first ever “Excelsior Agency” recognition certificate. This award was developed as recognition for state accredited agencies that have attained certain longevity in accreditation and remain committed to a philosophy of excellence. The Excelsior award recognizes agencies that have had five unconditional assessments, which means successful operations for 15 years running.
The national accrediting agency, The Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies (CALEA) also re-accredited the Orange County Sheriff’s Office for another three years and also bestowed two prestigious honors on the agency.
The Meritorious Award was presented to the Orange County Sheriff’s Office, recognizing 15 years of continuous accreditation. The Flagship Award, also presented to the agency, is given to those agencies with a proven track record of excellence in the accreditation process, and serves to provide other agencies seeking accreditation with examples of “best practices” on how to address compliance, policy development, file maintenance, and other issues relating to the accreditation process.
“Simply being re-accredited alone by both state and national agencies displays the Orange County Sheriff’s Office commitment to excellence,” said Sheriff Jerry Demings “but the Excelsior Award, the Meritorious Award, and the Flagship Awards all show that the men and women of this agency exemplify what being among the best of the best is all about.”
