Following the latest Consumer Price Index (CPI) release from the Bureau of Labor Statistics, Florida Senator Rick Scott blamed Bidenomics and Democrats for ongoing inflation that he says is failing American families. The Republican Senator also said there is a need to implement substantive fiscal reforms to end the inflation crisis caused by President Joe Biden’s spending.
“If Joe Biden thinks that his economic policies are actually helping American families live the American dream, he’s more delusional than we feared,” Senator Rick Scott said. “Under ‘Bidenomics’ families are left with massive inflation and paychecks that don’t go as far as they struggle to put food on the table, and turning to food banks for the first time in their lives.”
June’s CPI data shows that there has been a significant rise in inflation during Biden’s presidency, with CPI increasing 3.0% over the year in June 2023. Senator Rick Scott said Bidenomics is failing because since President Biden took office, inflation is up 16.6%.
The Florida Senator noted that according to the recent CPI release, price increases over the year include:
- Pet Food: +12.1%
- Bread: +11.5%
- Fruits and Vegetables: +8.8%
- Rent: +8.3%
- Baby Food and Formula: +7.5%
- All Food: +5.7%
- Electricity: +5.4%
According to the Producer Price Index (PPI) release, price increases over the year in June included:
- Fresh Vegetables: +21.7%
- Rice: +15.1%
- Beef and Veal: +14.8%
- Pet Food: +9.2%
- Pasta Products: +8.5%
- Residential Electric Power: +7.7%
- Coffee: +5.9%
“It’s a clear sign that ‘Bidenomics’ is doing nothing but crushing families with high prices,” Senator Scott said. “In Florida and all across the nation, families and small businesses have been paying a lot more for way too long. Food banks are busy with people who have never had to turn to charities for food before. The Floridians I talk to have had enough and are sick of hearing Joe Biden brag about an economy that is leaving them with less money and opportunity. The numbers don’t lie and I won’t stop fighting to end the reckless spending that is fueling this inflation nightmare.”
But President Biden is proud of his economic record and maintains inflation is falling while the American economy remains strong. Democrats agree and currently seem to be preparing to campaign on Bidenomics in 2024.
“I have heard from families across Florida who are left worrying about how to pay bills and with less money in bank accounts and retirement funds. It’s got to stop,” Senator Scott said. “We’ve got to get this skyrocketing inflation and reckless spending under control and stop expecting our kids and grandkids to pay the bill. That’s how we protect the American dream.”
