Facing closure of several of its schools owing to a near $20 million budget gap, the Seminole County School Board voted on Tuesday to keep all schools open, at least for another school year.

Superintendent Bill Vogel recommended to the board that the schools remain open for the 2012-13 school year.

The school board accepted Vogel’s recommendation.

At one time, eight elementary schools had been considered for closure, a move that had grown quite controversial among parents and the district.

Vogel told the school board that some $6 million would be forthcoming from the state next year due to retirement savings, cfnews13.com reports.
