Seminole County and Seminole State College Hosting Two Collegiate Championships

Seminole County and Seminole State College State College are teaming up to host two back-to-back collegiate championships this month, the FCSAA Women’s State Softball Championship and the NJCAA Women’s National Golf Championship.

Here’s a look at the events coming to town:

May 6th-9th – FCSAA Women’s State Softball Championship
Seminole County and Seminole State College are excited to welcome back, for the fourth year in a row, the annual Florida College System Activities Association (FCSAA) Women’s State Softball Championships at Boombah Soldiers Creek Park in Longwood.

“We’ve enjoyed hosting the softball championship,” said Kurt Esser, Director of Athletics, Seminole State College. “This is our fourth straight year hosting, and it is a nice event for Seminole County. This is the toughest regional softball tournament in the NJCAA. Teams advancing out of this regional have won three out of the last four national championships.”

This signature event showcases the top 8 junior college softball teams in Florida. The Seminole State Raiders will play their first game on Friday, May 6th at 4pm. The event will bring in teams and visitors from throughout the state and is anticipated to generate an economic impact of $200,000.

Tickets are available at the door (cash only) for $10 per day or $20 for the whole tournament. For more information or to livestream the games, visit FCSAA.

May 9th-12th – NJCAA National Women’s Golf Championship
For the first time, Seminole County and Seminole State College are hosting the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Women’s National Golf Championship at Mayfair Country Club in Sanford. This event welcomes 15 of the best junior college women’s golf teams from across the nation, as well as 15 of the top individual golfers, as they compete for a National Championship. It is also expected to generate an economic impact of $200,000 in Seminole County.

“Hosting the NJCAA National Women’s Golf Championship is a great honor for us,” said Pete Sands, General Manager, Mayfair Country Club. “This is the 100th anniversary of the course and we plan to have it in terrific shape for the event. It has been great working with the City of Sanford and Seminole State to plan a first-class tournament.”

The Women’s Golf team from Seminole State looks for a “threepeat”, winning titles in 2019 and 2021 (there was no championship held in 2020). This would be the first title earned in Seminole County.

“We are excited to host Nationals,” said Christa Teno, Women’s Golf Head Coach, Seminole State College. “This will give us a great chance to show of Seminole County and our great (golfing) community. We believe we are going to provide a great experience for the participating student-athletes.”

Admission is free. For more information, visit NJCAA.
