SeaWorld will reduce the number of working hours of its part-time employees and thus avoid offering health care insurance under the new Affordable Care Act, the Orlando Sentinel reported.
Part-time employees at SeaWorld were able to work up to 32 hours per week. But all that will change once SeaWorld implements the new policy limiting the number of hours worked to no more than 28 hours per week, the paper also reported.
This change would allow the theme park giant to circumvent the Affordable Care Act, better known as Obamacare, which requires that healthcare be provided to employees who work 30 hours or more a week.
Employers across the U.S. have systematically resorted to exploiting workers by cutting back on the number of hours employees are working, in order to avoid offering healthcare and cut cost. The White House has dismissed these claims as anecdotal.
SeaWorld employs more than 4,000 part-time workers in Central Florida and about 22,0000 employees nationwide at its 11 theme parks.
