Gov. Rick Scott announced Monday that $213 million of state funding will go toward building an intermodal station at Orlando International Airport, with half of the monies included in the current budget.
The funding is part of a $1.1 billion-dollar expansion in projects of the Greater Orlando Aviation Authority.
The Authority plans to build the intermodal station on the south side of the airport and it will include ground transportation, a 2,400 space parking garage, concessions, remote baggage check in and a station for All Aboard Florida, the planned passenger rail train linking South Florida to Orlando.
According to Scott, the airport investment would create 1,900 construction jobs and approximately 400 permanent jobs in and around the airport.
If the funding is approved by the Florida Legislature, construction could begin later this year.
