Gov. Rick Scott said Monday that his Florida Gulf Coast University’s unexpected run to the Sweet 16 of the NCAA basketball tournament has put him “number one in my bracket.”
FGCU became the first No. 15 seed in NCAA history to advance to the Sweet 16 with an 81-71 win Sunday night over San Diego State. FGCU, winners of the Atlantic Sun Conference, is in Fort Myers.
Scott is from nearby Naples. Now, he has to choose between the Eagles and the flagship Florida Gators, who will play next in the tournament on Friday.
“I like both these teams,” a diplomatic Scott said Monday in a interview with Fox News 92.5 in Fort Myers.
