Scott pulls out of PARCC

concentration-problems-in-school-going-childrenGov. Rick Scott is directing the state Education Board to withdraw from the national consortium creating tests to accompany the new Common Core State Standards.

Scott’s letter to state Board of Education Chairman Gary Chartrand on Monday, to withdraw from the Partnership for Assessment of Readiness for College and Careers (PARCC), comes amidst great confusion over whether Florida should pursue Common Core, “a broad curriculum standard” for public education, which should be implemented in Florida schools next year.

Florida is among 45 states that agreed to adopt Common Core Standards, but renewed debate and protests may delay its implementation.
