Scott Looks to Lotto, Scratch Cards to Boost Education Spending

Gov. Rick Scott is pushing for an increase in Lottery ticket sales to boost the amount of money available for education spending, saying Wednesday he will support instant machines that sell tickets that are now currently available only from cashiers.

In an interview with The News Service of Florida, Scott said it makes sense to try to boost lottery sales.

His proposed budget counts on a $241 million increase in Lottery money coming in.

“The Lottery has been successful at helping fund education and if they are very comfortable, which they appear to be, that if they add more machines they’re going to have more money for education, I think that’s what the citizens of the state are interested in,” Scott said. “They made a decision that they’re fine with the Lottery and they clearly want more money for education.”
