Schools with FCAT Failures to get Punished

A bill that would tie per-student spending by the state to performance on high stakes tests such as the FCAT passed the House on Monday.

A number of Democrats objected saying, it would further deprive already struggling schools, making their test scores even worse, but to no avail.

The bill (HB 7059) now travels to the Senate.

Rep. Kelli Stargel, R-Lakeland, and the bill’s sponsor, said it would ensure that schools have more of a stake in preparing students to succeed on tests.

The bill, backed by Republicans, passed 82-33.
