School Board Votes to Implement Uniform Dress Code

The Lake County School Board unanimously approved on Tuesday, implementation of a uniform dress code for the 2012-13 school year.

School Board Member Kyleen Fishcher, who proposed the dress code amendment said, its implementation will make it easier to identify a student that is not dressed appropriately and there is less room to bring in contraband or weapons into the classroom.

A second reading of the 2012-2013 Code of Student Conduct & Policy Guide will be scheduled for a later date in June.

  1.  As a student attending a Lake County school, I disagree with the idea of a strict dress code that is being enforced. The way a student dresses isn’t going to effect the grades a student gets in the classroom. The next couple years are the most important to most students as a teenager, because these are the years that matter the most, this is when a child gets to find out the type of person they are. These dress code rules are only going to anger students and in my belief it’s going to distract them more because they will be discussing the rules and the consequences rather than their school work. No matter how hard a school tries or how many rules are enforced, students are going to find ways to distract themselves, so by following up on these dress codes are only going to give students more to talk about. A better solution to this would not to be such strict dress codes but to have more of the student code of conduct we have now in year 2011-2012 but more enforced. Which includes the no visual cleavage and no sagging pants etc. In my family going school shopping every year is not an option I am the same size now as   I was from the beginning of my middle school years, so why would I need to spend money on clothes that I already have although they don’t fit your standards. This makes me not want to attend this school district and to have my family move to another county. I am an “A” “B” student and only missed one day of school all throughout school from my kindergarden year until now my freshmen year coming up, I love school clearly and this dress code restrictions are making me refuse schooling, and move to a homeschooling system.
