A pair of Florida events that would have featured Wisconsin Congressman Paul Ryan, the running mate for GOP president nominee Mitt Romney, have been canceled as Hurricane Sandy barrels towards the coast in several Northeastern states.
In a statement emailed to reporters, Romney communications director Gail Gitcho said the move was made “out of sensitivity for the millions of Americans in the path of Hurricane Sandy.”
Ryan was set to appear in Melbourne and Lakeland. An appearance by Romney in Wisconsin was also scratched, as were Tuesday appearances for both candidates.
“Governor Romney believes this is a time for the nation and its leaders to come together to focus on those Americans who are in harm’s way,” Gitcho, said.
