Do you want to get the right Valentine’s Day gift?
Well, Rollins students are encouraging you to get a live plant that you can replant for your Valentine, instead of cut flowers that only last a few days!
Today, Thursday February 11th, from noon to 2:00 pm, students from Eco-Rollins will be selling flowering plants for Valentine’s Day during the Rollins Street Market, in front of the Olin Library.
“Eco-Rollins students are promoting the purchase of a live plant for Valentine’s Day, because it can then be planted to continue its beautiful growth for all to enjoy. This is great alternative to traditional cut flowers, which only last a short time and use excess energy when shipped from outside the country,” Ann Francis, Faculty Advisor for Eco-Rollins said. “EcoRollins is co-sponsoring the event to help support the relief efforts of earthquake-ridden Haiti. Every little bit helps … even a plant for $2.50!”
Eco-Rollins has supported other green ventures in the past and collected funds for other local organizations like “Back to Nature Wildlife Refuge.”
The going green for Valentine’ Day initiative is co-sponsored by Organic Gardeners of Rollins and the Recycling Program.
