State Representative Geraldine F. Thompson was elected to the Executive Committee of the National Black Caucus of State Legislators (NBCSL) during its annual meeting held in Atlanta, Georgia in December of 2010. Rep. Thompson will serve a term of two years on the NBCSL Executive Committee under the leadership of incoming NBCSL President Rep. Barbara Ballard of Kansas.
The primary mission of the National Black Caucus of State Legislators is to develop, conduct and promote educational, research and training programs designed to enhance the effectiveness of its members as they consider legislation and issues of public policy which impact upon, either directly or indirectly “the general welfare” of African American constituents within their respective jurisdictions.
Rep. Thompson said that she is honored to have the opportunity to serve on the Executive Committee of the National Black Caucus of State Legislators and looks forward to furthering her knowledge about the issues that affect the people of District 39 and others throughout the Nation.
“The issues that are facing minority and under privileged communities, like unemployment and the digital divide, are not exclusive to the citizens of District 39,” Thompson said. “This role will give me the opportunity to interact with other state legislators on a national level and share solutions on how to address these and other issues.”
