Record-Breaking $1.6 Billion Mega Millions Jackpot Claimed, Makes History in Florida

The Florida Lottery recently announced that Saltines Holdings, LLC from Miami has claimed the monumental MEGA MILLIONS® jackpot of $1.6 billion from the drawing held back on August 8, 2023.




The anonymous Florida winner chose to receive the winnings as a whopping one-time, lump-sum payment of $794,248,882.00.

Mega Millions FloridaThe record-breaking winning ticket, which matched all five of the white ball numbers and the Mega Ball number, was claimed at Lottery Headquarters in Tallahassee. This series of 32 rollovers from April to August has not only captured national attention but has also contributed a staggering $73.4 million to further education in Florida.

The winning MEGA MILLIONS Quick Pick ticket was purchased from Publix, located at 630 Atlantic Boulevard in Neptune Beach, near Jacksonville. The retailer received a $100,000 bonus commission for selling the winning MEGA MILLIONS ticket.

Since Florida joined Mega Millions in 2013, the game has generated more than $1.10 billion for education and has awarded more than $1.84 billion in prizes to 76.9 million players – creating 135 millionaires, including five jackpot winners.




The Florida Lottery is responsible for contributing more than $45 billion to enhance education and sending more than 983,000 students to college through the Bright Futures Scholarship Program. The Florida Lottery reinvests 99 percent of its revenue into Florida’s economy through prize payouts, commissions to more than 13,500 Lottery retailers, and transfers to education. Since 1988, Florida Lottery games have paid more than $91.2 billion in prizes and made more than 3,800 people millionaires.
