Randolph Resigns Leaving Orange County Democrats in Shambles

The Orange County Democratic Executive Committee (DEC) is in shambles. And now Scott Randolph, having grabbed a high-paying job on Earl K Wood’s dead name and having won the financial lottery with the appointees he controlled on the board, has resigned as DEC Chair. Surprised? Don’t be.

Randolph ran for Chair less than a year ago saying he was needed because defeating Teresa Jacobs in 2014 was the top priority and he was the only one who could deliver. He promised to recruit candidates to challenge Republicans across the county. Randolph claimed he was the only one who had the fundraising ability to succeed.

Well, the results are in. The party membership is pathetic. One newly elected precinct chair said he was never contacted once by the Chair or the DEC board and was then removed from the membership roll for not showing up to meetings he was never invited to. The fundraising is non-existant. There are no candidates less than a year away from the August elections.

Randolph also seems to have cut a deal with Teresa Jacobs to not recruit a strong Democratic challenger as long as Jacobs backs off on privatizing the Tax Collector office. There is currently no candidate for County Mayor just 10 months before the most important local election. Randolph also has failed to raise any real money at the local level. He was bailed out by Florida Democratic Party Chair Allison Tant at the beginning of the year, when she cut a large check to cover Randolph’s 2012 debt. Other than that, next to nothing went in the bank account.

Randolph also failed on his Ethical Orange campaign to make county elections partisan, and spent nearly $30,000 on nothing. He also wasted Democratic volunteers and paid staff on his effort before abandoning that just like he is abandoning the local party.

So, Scott Randolph made off with a $150,000+ salary. If he makes it to 2015, his pension will then be a percentage of that large salary. He’s left the local Democratic Party with no money, no candidates, no infrastructure and no enthusiasm.
