Purse Thief Gang Nabbed in Ocoee

Two woman believed to have carried out a string of burglaries on school campuses and hospitals in various jurisdictions across Central Florida, were arrested today.

Ocoee police said, 29-year-old Ziedra Domine Jenkins and 32-year-old Tomika Lawana Johnson were nabbed today, after they were sited at Westbrook and Thornebrooke Elementary Schools in Ocoee, where they had previously struck.

Jenkins and Johnson would usually enter during school hours and make their way to areas where they located purses and stole personal identifications and credit cards which they later used at area stores, police said.

Thornebrooke Elementary School staff quickly alerted police on Wednesday, when the two were spotted on the campus around 11:00 a.m.

Police said, an overwhemling amount of evidence was found linking Jenkins and Johnson to numerous thefts from the schools in Ocoee. It is believed that the two carried out similar crimes in other jurisdictions.

Jenkins has active warrants for theft and fraud crimes, including no bond for violation of probation in Orange County.  She has bonds amounting to $160,000 for felony theft and fraud crimes from Volusia and Brevard Counties.

Police believe that Jenkins and Johnson were engaged in an ongoing enterprise involving theft, identity theft and schemes to defraud.

Jenkins and Johnson will be charged with multiple counts, including burglary, grand theft, identity theft, credit card fraud and trepassing on school grounds. Jenkins will face additional charges for engaging in similar activities at Health Central Hospital in Ocoee in August.

Police said the investigation is still ongoing and other jurisdictions will be contacted that may be investigating similar crimes involving Jenkins and Johnson.
