The second impeachment of former President Donald Trump is finally over. The Senate has acquitted the 45th President, in a final vote of 57-43 to impeach, where 67 votes were needed. “Our historic, patriotic and beautiful movement to Make America Great Again has only just begun,” the former President said in a statement reacting to the verdict, published in full below. Trump also called this “yet another phase of the greatest witch hunt” in his reaction.
The West Orlando News weighed in earlier on the problematic impeachment effort against Donald Trump. It is now clear it is time to move ahead with the country’s business, and the Democratic efforts against Trump must wait until a potential 2024 rematch.
“It is a sad commentary on our times that one political party in America is given a free pass to denigrate the rule of law, defame law enforcement, cheer mobs, excuse rioters, and transform justice into a tool of political vengeance, and persecute, blacklist, cancel and suppress all people and viewpoints with whom or which they disagree,” former President Trump said in the statement issued after the vote. “I always have, and always will, be a champion for the unwavering rule of law, the heroes of law enforcement, and the right of Americans to peacefully and honorably debate the issues of the day without malice and without hate.”
Democratic House Managers attempted to spin the vote by claiming it was the “most bipartisan” impeachment vote in history, but admitted the vote fell short. “Senators, this trial, in the final analysis, is not about Donald Trump. The country and the world know who Donald Trump is. This trial is about who we are, who we are,” lead impeachment manager Jamie Raskin said.
“This has been yet another phase of the greatest witch hunt in the history of our Country. No president has ever gone through anything like it,” former President Trump added.

My deepest thanks as well to all of the United States Senators and Members of Congress who stood proudly for the Constitution we all revere and for the sacred legal principles at the heart of our country.
