An Orlando police officer who felt threatened while investigating a drug complaint, shot and killed a man on Wednesday.
The shooting happened downtown Orlando in the area of Arlington Street and Orange Blossom Trail, just before 6:30 p.m.
According to news reports, officers went to a home on Arlington Street, knocked on the door and one man stepped outside. Â As he did so, another man inside reached for a handgun and pointed it at the officers standing in the doorway. Â Â As also reported, a second man inside the home refused to follow orders and reached into his waist band. Â That’s when the officers felt threatened and opened fire hitting two of the subjects in the home.
Both 19-year-old Karvis Jabbar Gamble and 25-year-old Cordaryl Leonjermane Wilson were taken to the Orlando Regional Medical Center for treatment. Â Gamble subsequently died at ORMC on Thursday.
Police removed 3 guns, two of which had been reported stolen from the residence. Â Investigators say, illegal drugs were also recovered.
Police say, charges range from possession of ecstasy, possession of cannabis, possession of drug paraphernalia and resisting and officer with violence. Â Additional charged could be pending.
A statement from OPD said, Florida Department of Law Enforcement is investigating the fatal shooting. Â As is customary, two officers involved in the shooting have been placed on administrative leave.
Wednesday’s shooting is the second one in which officers have been involved in a 24-hour period.
On Tuesday night, a police officer returned fire when a convicted felon, 22-year-old Sadiki Allwood, shot at officers in the 5200-5500 block of Cinderland Parkway in the Rosemont area. Â Police had gone to investigate drug complaints.
