A non-profit Pet Food Stamp program is working to provide food for pets of low-income families who are struggling with putting food on the table and feeding their pets.
Organizers say, on account of the tough economic times, many poor pet owners have no option but to abandon their family pet to the ASPCA or a high-kill shelter. Now all that could change.
“We feel that should not happen and provide free pet food to prevent that decision [high-kill shelter] from happening,” said Pet Food Stamps founder Marc Okon explained, cbslocal.com reported.
Given that pet owners need to vaccinate their animals and provide other sometimes costly care, petfoodstamps.org is meant to help pick up the slack and help those who are less economically fortunate.
