Republican presidential hopeful Rick Perry will face protesters who want to draw attention to his likening of social security to a Ponzi scheme, during an appearance in St. Pete Beach Wednesday.
Calling itself the “Hands Off – No Cuts” campaign, the group, affiliated with the National Committee to Preserve Social Security and Medicare, said it will demonstrate outside the Texas governor’s campaign fundraising breakfast Wednesday morning.
“Rick Perry likes to compare Social Security to a ‘Ponzi Scheme,'” said Norm Bungard, a volunteer leader of the group. “Well, more than 485,000 people rely on this important program in Florida, and to them, it’s no scheme at all. It’s their livelihood.”
