Orange School Board Adopts New Teen Dating Violence, Abuse Policy

The School Board of Orange County on Tuesday added a new teen dating violence and abuse curriculum component, to its school policy.

The purpose of the proposed policy is to provide students with an educational environment free from sexual violence in compliance with appplicable state and federal law.

The policy defines dating violence and abuse and sets out requirements for reporting, its incorporation into the curriculum, training and other related requirements and procedures.

According to the new policy, for students in grades 7 through 12, dating violence and abuse will be included as part of the health education curriculum, with an emphasis on prevention-based education.

OCPS school employees are to be provided training on the new dating violence and abuse policy.
