ESPN.com’s Chris Broussard reported Sunday night Scott Perry, the Pistons’ vice president of basketball operations is being targeted by the Orlando Magic to be their new assistant general manager.

Perry, 48, who is from Detroit has experience on the college and professional levels. He was a head coach at Eastern Kentucky, and had stints at Detroit Mercy, California and the University of Michigan as an assistant coach.

New Magic GM Rob Hennigan will look to utilize Perry’s keen eye for college talent in his efforts to rebuild Orlando with or without Dwight Howard.

Perry has been a big part of drafting key pieces for the Pistion’s. For example, Rodney Stuckey, Tayshaun Prince and Jason Maxiell among others.

Rumors are circulating that the Houston Rockets are looking to acquire two top ten picks to include in a package deal to send the Magic for Howard in return.

Consensus is Orlando will hire a new head coach pretty soon and afterwards sit down with the three time defensive player of the year and see if they can convince him to sign a long term deal. If not they will trade Howard and move on.

The Brooklyn Nets are also in the mix to try and trade for the All-Star center.
