Out-of-State Visitor Claims $1 Million Powerball Prize in Florida

An out-of-state visitor recently claimed a $1 million Powerball prize in Florida.

The Florida Lottery announced that Floyd Horner, Jr., of Tega Cay, South Carolina, claimed a $1 million prize from the Powerball drawing held on February 1, 2023, at the Lottery’s Tampa District Office.

The winning Powerball ticket matched all five white ball numbers but did not match the Power Ball number.

Horner purchased his $1 million-winning Powerball ticket from RaceTrac, located at 24224 US Highway 27 in Lake Wales. The retailer received a $1,000 bonus commission for selling the winning ticket.

The next Powerball drawing will be held Wednesday at 10:59pm ET, with an estimated $20 million jackpot.

Tickets must be purchased by 10:00pm ET to be eligible for this drawing. Powerball drawings are broadcast live, in high definition, from the Florida Lottery’s state-of-the-art draw studio in Tallahassee.

Since joining Powerball in 2009, the game has generated more than $2.96 billion in contributions to Florida public education. Florida is among the top-selling Powerball states in the country, with more than 137.1 million winning tickets totaling more than $3.74 billion in prizes, including 16 jackpot winners.

The Florida Lottery is responsible for contributing more than $46 billion to enhance education and sending more than 983,000 students to college through the Bright Futures Scholarship Program. The Florida Lottery reinvests 99 percent of its revenue into Florida’s economy through prize payouts, commissions to more than 13,600 Lottery retailers, and transfers to education. Since 1988, Florida Lottery games have paid more than $97.2 billion in prizes and made more than 4,000 people millionaires.
