OUC provided local students with an inside look at the utility industry, giving the children a hands-on learning opportunity during the summer break.
The Orlando Utilities Commission recently hosted the 14th Annual Orlando Youth Energy Academy at its Gardenia Innovation and Operations Center.
The event invited around 65 students from Orange County, Osceola County, Seminole County and Lake County to participate in a series of interactive exercises, including a mock hurricane simulation by BAM (Black Architects in the Making) Orlando.
The goal is to educate a diverse group of kids about career opportunities in the utility industry.
The two-day career exploration is part of a partnership between OUC, the American Association of Blacks in Energy, Duke Energy and Siemens.
