Orlando Zoning Board gives Thrill Park a Thumbs Down

Sketch of one of the rides at proposed Orlando Thrill Park

Developers planning to build a thrill park along International Drive suffered a set back on Tuesday when the Orlando Municipal Zoning Board unanimously voted against rezoning the land on which the project is to be built.

In a 9 to 0 vote, the zoning body said it did not know enough about the 78-acre Orlando Thrill Park and its impact on noise, traffic and lighting.

Supporters of the thrill park point to the jobs that will be created in the area, close to Tangelo Park, if the project goes ahead.

Those who oppose the development, express their concerns regarding the noise and sounds that will arise from the park, which would include 15 rides.

Developers have five days within which to appeal the Board’s decision.

The City Council will next vote on the project, although it is rare for the Council to over-rule recommendations of the zoning board.
