Orlando Passenger Killed in Two Vehicle, Hit & Run Accident

Florida Highway Patrol is investigating a deadly accident.

It happened just before 4:30 a.m. Saturday in Orange County near the intersection of Balboa Drive and Hiawassee Road.

Witnesses told troopers a 2012 Chevy Camaro heading westbound on Balboa approaching Hiawassee Road, slammed into a 2001 Toyota Camry that was traveling north on Hiawassee, approaching Balboa. Witnessses said, the driver of the Chery Camaro ran the red light.

The unknown driver of the Chevy Camaro, then fled the scene of the crash.

Troopers said, the impact caused both vehicles to rotate clockwise across southbound Hiawassee Road onto the southwest sidewalk of Hiawassee Road and the Toyota Camry collided with a concrete privacy wall, coming to rest with its rear right wheel on top of the concrete wall.

The unknown driver of the Chevy Camaro fled the scene, but two passengers, 25-year-old Patric Chambers and 18-year-old Gabrielle Swann, both of Orlando, remained at the crash scene.

The driver of the Toyota Camry, 23-year-old Lakeisha Oglesby, of Orlando suffered minor injuries as a result of the crash. Her passenger, 28-year-old Thomas J. Smith, of Orlando was pronounced dead at the scene.

Troopers said, the unknown driver is described as a black male with black dreadlocks.

This crash remains under investigation and charges are pending.
