Man Killed in Motorcycle Crash in Orange County

An Orlando motorcyclist was killed on Edgewater Drive near Lee Road in Orange County, after he was hit by a vehicle on Friday afternoon.

Troopers said, 63-year-old George Beavers, riding a 2004 Yamaha Mitsubishi going north on Edgewater Drive was attempting to make a left turn onto Lee Road when he failed to yield the right-of-way and was hit by a pick-up truck traveling south on Edgewater Drive.

27-year-old William Wieland, the driver of the 2003 GMC pick-up truck told troopers that, he entered the intersection on a yellow traffic signal and unable to avoid hitting the Yamaha Mitsubishi.

Trooper said, after the crash, Beavers was ejected from the motorcycle. He was transported to Florida South Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

A 37-year-old pedestrian, Jesus Marquez, who was standing on the sidewalk on the southwest corner of the intersection was struck by the pick-up truck and knocked to the ground.  Marquez sustained serious injuries and was taken to the Orlando Regional Medical Center for treatment.

Troopers said, the crash remains under investigation.
