Today, the owner of an Orlando medical business, along with its doctor and medical staff, were arrested by agents of the Metropolitan Bureau of Investigation (MBI) and Orlando police.
Ronald Van Der Kuijl, the owner of Unique Health Care, located at 4978 Millenia Boulevard in Orlando, Dr. Donald Charles Edwards, and staff members Mao Amaro and Gracielle Van Der Kuijil, were taken into custody.
Law enforcement officers say, Unique Health Care handed out prescriptions for controlled substances without proper care and which in most instances were unnecessary and highly addictive. Dr. Edwards would routinely issue lethal controlled substances such as Hydrocodone, Oxycodone and OxyContin, among others, outside the authorized and professional practice of medicine.
Persons who obtained these medically unnecessary prescriptions hailed from throughout Central, South, and North Florida and as far away as Bay County in the Panhandle.
Van Der Kuijl and Dr. Donald Charles Edwards operated a “CASH ONLY” business.
Agents also say, Unique Health Care is not a registered pain clinic with the Department Of Health. An Emergency Restriction Order against Dr. Donald Charles Edwards’ Medical License, restricting him from prescribing any controlled substances was issued by the Department of Health.
Anyone with additional information related to Unique Health Care, or any other illegal pain clinic, is urged to contact the MBI at (407) 836 9701.
The investigation is ongoing.
