Orlando Mayor Candidate Celebrates Event at Local Islamic Center

Orlando mayor candidate and State Representative Anna Eskamani recently celebrated the interfaith Iftar dinner at the Islamic Center of Orlando.

Iftar, one of the religious observances of Ramadan, is the daily evening meal often done as a community to break the dawn-to-sunset fast together.

“Grateful to have participated in yesterday evening’s annual interfaith Iftar dinner at the Islamic Center of Orlando,” Rep. Anna Eskamani posted. “Spaces like this are so important in bringing people of different faiths and backgrounds together to share a meal, learn from one another, and build deeper understanding and community.”

She was born and raised in Orlando, and she is the daughter of working-class immigrants who came to Florida from Iran in search of the American Dream – giving her a unique perspective on current events including the Iran War.

With everything currently happening around the world, and with tensions and threats increasing in our own country, the Orlando mayor candidate reminded the community about “our shared humanity” and “the power of coming together” – keeping a positive and uniting message.

“In a time when division can feel loud, gatherings like this remind us of our shared humanity and the power of coming together with openness and respect,” Rep. Anna Eskamani posted along with these photos to celebrate the occasion:

According to Rep. Eskamani, there were several different denominations and inclusive churches, but most of the attendees were from the neighborhood, which is more the Dr. Phillips/Windermere area.

She was also able to celebrate in Tallahassee, where she was concluding her service as an Orlando Democratic State Representative.

“Last night, we co-hosted the first-ever Iftar Dinner at the Florida Capitol with The Atlantic Institute. It was such a beautiful gathering, a space where people of different backgrounds came together to break bread and build understanding,” she posted. “Grateful to everyone who joined us and helped make the historic evening so special.”

Anna Eskamani is a Democrat running for Orlando Mayor in 2027.
