An Orlando man who was struck by an SUV last Wednesday, as he attempted to cross east Colonial Drive at Maguire Boulevard, has died of his injuries.
Police say, 67-year-old John A. Couture, darted across the eastbound lanes of east Colonial Drive and had cleared the outside and middle lanes before he was struck by a Ford Excursion, driven by Valerie Martinez-Guzman, 39, of Orlando.
Martinez-Guzman was making a left turn from southbound Maguire Boulevard to eastbound East Colonial Drive in the inside turn lane, on a green left turn arrow. There are pedestrian cross walk signals at this intersection, police said.
Couture sustained life threatening injuries and was transported to ORMC in critical condition. Mr. Couture died on February 4, of his injuries.
Police say, no charges are pending against Martinez-Guzman.
Couture’s death is the second pedestrian fatality in Orlando to date. There have been a total of five traffic homicides so far in Orlando, police said.
