The man whose body was recovered from the trunk of a burning car at West McCormick and Ingram Roads in Apopka on January 1st, has been identified.
Deputies said that the name of the deceased is Lamonte Herring, 26 years. He was a convicted felon with a long rap sheet.
Herring’s body was found in the truck of a Chrysler after deputies and firefighters responded to 701 West McCormick Road on January 1st at 11:00 pm, in reference to a report of a vehicle on fire. Upon extinguishing the fire, firefighters and deputies recovered Herring’s body in the trunk of the car.
Investigators are continuing their search for suspects. They have given no indication of the likely cause or manner of Herring’s death and are awaiting preliminary autopsy results.
Herring had a long rap sheet dating back to 2001, including arrests for grand theft, possession of cannabis with the intent to sell or deliver, trafficking in cocaine, fleeing and eluding a law enforcement officer, armed burglary of an occupied dwelling, aggravated battery, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and attempted carjacking with a firearm.
Herring’s death marks the first homicide in 2011 for Orange County.
