The City of Orlando hypes our city as a “digital hub” and a “technology center” that will help redefine our local economy. However, The city of Orlando has given an $8.7 million software contract to a California-based company without going through a bidding process, even though other vendors wanted to bid and local options were available to consider.

The five-year software contract is for managing the city’s human resources, financial management and purchasing. Orlando Chief Financial Officer Rebecca Sutton pushed for the city to give the millions in local tax dollars to Workday, a company that serves major corporations and no other municipalities.

This is the largest contract ever awarded by the City of Orlando without seeking competitive bids. CFO Sutton and some city staff even flew to Las Vegas to sign the contract, costing tax payers more than $20,000 just for the lavish trip.

If Buddy Dyer and the rest of Orlando’s city government will not invest locally, why will any other companies or industries? Our local government’s actions continue to expose our city’s façade as just that, not even worthy of our own tax dollars.
