Over the last six years, the city of Orlando has received four visits from a group of young students eager to spread a message of unity and understanding through service and music: 100 members originating from more than 20 different countries, all working with the same enthusiasm and dedication towards the same goal. One thousand hours of work put into volunteering opportunities in every city they visit, high quality performances with international songs and dances, and the lives of many local  families touched, those that have opened their homes and their hearts to one or more of these boys and girls.

This is the mission of Up with People: To spark people into action in taking care of the needs of their communities and countries while building bridges of understanding as a foundation to make a positive difference in the world.

Up with People is getting ready to visit Orlando for a one-week stay and we are just a week away from their arrival on August 3rd. However, the city is still not ready to welcome them as there are not enough local families signed up to host the participants. Out of the 120 young adults visiting, 40 of them are currently homeless! The opportunity to stay with local families during their time in each community is a centerpiece of Up with People’s program.  The giving goes both ways; while families share their traditions and local attractions, the cast members also share their experiences and cultures. Our experience tells us that this is a very heart-warming and enriching opportunity for everyone involved.

Hosting a participant from August 3rd to August 10th is simple, only three things are requested: A place to sleep (couches or even inflatable mattresses are ok), breakfasts and some dinners and transportation to the Dolphin Hotel in the mornings and back home in the evenings. During the day the Up with People members will be carrying out community service projects, learning about the local culture, performing in Epcot and preparing for their new musical show “The Journey”.

The show will feature historical highlights from throughout Up with People’s 50-year existence, including pop medleys from the last 5 decades, and a medley of iconic UWP international dances. Original UWP songs will introduce timeless themes, and include messages of hope, peace, and an overriding sense of motivation to go out and make a positive change in the world.

Each host family will receive two complimentary tickets to the Up with People’s private show, part of the 50th anniversary celebration of the organization. Those interested in hosting are encouraged to contact Isaiah McGregory on the Orlando Advance Team at [email protected] or by calling 719.424.6289.  Don´t hesitate!  Call now!

Up with People’s visit to Orlando is sponsored by the Up with People International Alumni Association, as part of the 50th anniversary celebration of the organization.
