R.L. Burns, Inc., a full service general construction and construction management company in downtown Orlando, was hailed as a success by the U.S. Small Business Regional Administrator, Cassius Butts, earlier this week. Butts received a first-hand account of how small businesses are able to generate positive growth, particularly in underserved areas.
R.L. Burns, Inc.’s President, Robert Burns, provided insight on how he has been able to leverage several SBA programs and services to grow his business, and how other small business owners can learn from his example. The company is currently an 8(a) certified firm that has been offered 13 8(a) set-aside contracts valued at over $9 million, and creating 20 jobs.
“Any business that hopes to grow should focus on hiring employees. Small businesses represent 98.9% of all employers in the State of Florida, and the benefit is twofold. There is the obvious benefit to the community at large, as well as a small business owner’s ability to focus on overall growth by delegating operational tasks,” said North Florida District Director, Wilfredo J. Gonzalez.
“Taking a tour with a business such as R.L. Burns, Inc. along with the firm’s owner, Robert Burns, acts as an excellent reminder that small business success is often derived from a collaborative effort,” said Butts. “Mr. Burns is a successful, growing small business owner who has created 20 jobs right in downtown Orlando. This equals true success in my eyes.”
