Orange County to Reduce School Impact Fees

School impact fees in Orange County are likely to be reduced significantly, depending on the type of house being built.

The Orange County School Board passed a resolution Tuesday supporting a county ordinance to reduce school impact fees between 38 percent and 50 percent. The new fees are seen as an economic stimulus and aimed at boosting the local construction industry.

The Orange County Commission had proposed that impact fees be rolled back by 25 percent.

Existing impact fees which were put in place in January 2008, are now the subject of a review to bring them in line with current construction costs.

A consulting firm, Tindale-Oliver, is working with the school district and Orange County Commission to update the impact fee study.

The county is expected to pass the new impact fee ordinance in May.
