Thanks to the incredible efforts of the local community, Orange County packed over one million meals during this year’s MLK Day of Service to support families across Central Florida at the Orange County Convention Center.
This Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service collaboration among U.S. Hunger, the Orange County Mayor’s MLK Initiative, the Orlando Mayor’s MLK Commission, and thousands of volunteers is a powerful tribute to Dr. King’s enduring legacy of service and compassion. The goal was to distribute 1 million healthy meals of food relief throughout Central Florida.
Orange County Mayor Jerry Demings previously announced that the Orange County Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Initiative would again participate in the 2nd Annual MLK Day of Service Million Meal Pack, which took place on Monday, January 20, 2025.
In the spirit of bringing the message of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. to unincorporated areas of Orange County and surrounding communities, Orange County Mayor Jerry Demings created the first Orange County Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Initiative. Dr. King’s lifelong commitment to civil rights, nonviolence, and justice for all remains promising in today’s society. Through inclusiveness and collaboration, this initiative will commemorate his work and legacy for years to come, according to the Mayor.
U.S. Hunger is a 501(c)(3) that has activated more than 1,000,000 volunteers to distribute over 160 million meals across the globe. They address hunger by engaging volunteers, educating on the root causes of food insecurity, and creating access to nutritious meals for low-income families and individuals.

The Million Meal Pack was held at the Orange County Convention Center, South Concourse Hall B on January 20, 2025 to celebrate the MLK Jr. Day of Action.
