At a recent Democratic event, an Orange County Mayor candidate said she wants to work with Republicans and Democrats for for attainable housing and transportation.
Orange County Commissioner Mayra Uribe, currently running for Mayor, recently attended an Orlando event with Congressman Maxwell Alejandro Frost about proposed legislation improving housing affordability.
At the Democratic event, Uribe thanked Rep. Frost for his efforts on the issue of housing affordability in the segment of manufactured housing. She also thanked Republicans.
“Many do not know that Congressman Frost (D10) and the members of our local delegation — Congressmen Daniel Webster (D11), Darren Soto (D9), Mike Haridopolos (D8), and Cory Mills (D7) — have supported the State of Florida and Orange County in obtaining important federal grants – CBDG and others — that are used for the improvement and construction of affordable housing in our county,” candidate Mayra Uribe posted. “Their insight, votes and support have been of such value to our local community. But, Orange County Government needs to better interface with our Federal and State delegations to improve the housing supply and cost issues. This is necessary, so we can make Orange County a place where our children and their children can afford, and will want to call home.”
The Orange County Mayor candidate also emphasized that bipartisan support was a top priority if she is elected.
“It will be Job Priority #1 as County Mayor, to extend to ‘both sides of the aisle’ and grow bipartisan support for the funding of sensible projects for attainable housing and transportation,” Mayra Uribe posted. “I have found it’s better to collaborate than fight.”
She said in the future she looks forward to working with the local congressional delegation on the housing and transportation needs for Orange County.
One of her opponents in the race for Orange County Mayor, former Central Florida Congresswoman Stephanie Murphy, also recently highlighted attainable housing as a top priority.
