The Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office uses an AI-assisted report writing tool.
The Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office recently introduced a new artificial intelligence-powered tool to assist deputies with report writing, alleviating administrative duties so they can spend more time serving the community.
Axon Draft One is designed to generate a preliminary report narrative using audio recorded by a deputy’s body-worn camera.
The tool started being used for non-criminal calls for service and securely transcribes and organizes the deputy’s account of the incident, streamlining report writing.
The tool relies on audio narration, so deputies must clearly describe events and observations on camera to ensure all relevant details are captured.
Deputies are required to carefully review, edit, and approve every report before it is submitted, according to HCSO. The system includes built-in prompts that highlight areas where more detail may be needed, and deputies must make substantive edits to ensure the final report accurately reflects the Central Florida incident.

Our deputies remain fully responsible for every report, and this tool simply allows them to focus more time on protecting our community.”
All information processed through Draft One remains within Axon’s secure system and is not shared with public AI platforms. At first, the tool was to be used only for non-criminal calls for service.
