Background Information Operation Positive Direction

The Orlando Police Department established a new youth mentoring program, Operation Positive Direction. The program is provided for middle and high school students in Orange County. The program will include mentoring, tutoring, community service, goal setting and incentives for success. We have been fortunate to receive some funding from community businesses to seed our program.

Operation Positive Direction has partnered with WFTV-9, Orlando Magic, Walt Disney World, Ace Hardware, Target, Collis Roofing, Chick-Fil-A and Panda Express.

The top priority for Chief Val Demings is the reduction of violent crime in our community.  There has been a disturbing increase in crimes being committed by young adults between the ages of 14-22. Chief Demings is confident mentoring programs will make a positive difference in the lives of young people who face social, economic and academic challenges. Officer Renita Osselyn works with each of the students and monitors their individual success. Our goal is to provide individual mentors for each of the students.
