OPD Participates in Special Olympics Torch Run

The Orlando Police Department will participate in the 2013 Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics on Tuesday, April 23, 2013 beginning at Cypress Grove Park at 9am.

The Torch Run is an international event in which law enforcement officers and civilians from around the world carry the torch and run or walk to raise money and awareness for Special Olympics. The funds raised support millions of athletes worldwide with intellectual disabilities that compete in a wide variety of athletic events in the summer and winter games.

The torch run is 3.1 miles and will end at the Russell Home for Atypical Children. The run is meant to show unity and promote awareness. On average, the Orlando Police Department has approximately 100-150 employees that participate. Other local state and federal agencies will also be participating.
