OPD: Juvenile Enforcement Sweep Nets 13 Arrests Overnight

A juvenile enforcement sweep that entailed over 100 attempts to contact youth offenders on supervision led to 13 arrests overnight, Orlando Police Department (OPD) officers said.

According to OPD:

On March 30, 2010 units from the Orlando Police Department partnered with probation officers from the Department of Juvenile Justice to check youthful offenders who are on supervision. The Orange County Sheriff’s Office Fugitive Unit also supported this effort by furnishing staffing and documentation i.e. fifty juvenile custody orders or juvenile arrest warrants.

Six probation teams and three warrant teams worked through the evening to contact these juveniles. Juveniles on probation are subject to curfews and random drug screenings.

106 attempts to contact were made in five hours resulting in thirteen arrests in a single evening.  Of the arrests made, 8 were for violating probation and 5 on juvenile pick up orders.

Several youth who were not home when they were checked on face pending violations and follow up is being conducted by the Department of Juvenile Justice on those violations of probation.
