Old Man Fighting OPD Gets Taken Down

An elderly man will likely be charged with assaulting and battering an Orlando Police officer, although he himself remains hospitalized from serious neck injuries after police “armbarred” and handcuffed him, a spokesperson from OPD said.

Police officers were called to 1820 N. Orange Avenue on Saturday night around 10:00 pm, because of a disturbance which stemmed from the removal of an illegally parked car by a tow truck.

The car belonged to Daniel J. Daley, an 84-year-old white male, who had parked the vehicle on private property to go to the Carboose Bar.

Officers Travis Lamonte and Natasha Endrina arrived on the scene and were advised that Daley could have his car back if he paid $50.00, which he did.

Although Daley paid the the tow company, police said that he continued to be belligerent, arguing and slapping one of the officers on his shoulder repeatedly.

Police said Daley was warned not to continue to slap the officer’s shoulder. A civilian also approached trying to defuse the situation and persuade Daley to desist.

It is reported that Daley became very aggressive and grabbed the officer by his neck and made a fist with his other hand as if to throw a punch.

Police stated that Daley said, “I am not going anywhere until I knock this cop out.”

An officer then grabbed Daley, using an “arm bar” to take him to the ground to handcuff him.

While the suspect was being handcuffed, he complained about pain in his neck.  Daley also told officers he was just kidding, according to police.

In the scuffle, Daley sustained lacerations which led to bleeding.

The Fire Department was called and Daley was taken to the Florida Hospital where he was treatment for a serious neck injury.

According to police, Daley had a blood alcohol level of .187.

A police spokeswoman, Barb Jones said that OPD had filed “At Large” charges with the State Attorney’s Office.  All pertinent documents, including incident reports will be reviewed and the State Attorney’s office will determine what charges would be brought forward against Daley.
