Orlando International Airport had virtually the same passenger traffic in the month of October 2009, as it did in the same month the previous year, a news release from OIA said. Overall, Traffic increased 0.1 percent with international traffic leading the way with 24.2 percent increase. Meanwhile, domestic travel declined by 1.7 percent.
The growth in international traffic was realized on account of the inauguration of the new service into OIA. Martinair returned to Orlando with three flights per week to Amsterday.
In addition to Martinair, several airlines, including AirTran Airways, Continental Connection, Delta, Frontier, JetBlue,Lufthansa, Northwest United, US Airways and WestJet also increased flights into Orlando International. Overall 98 new flights were added to weekly operations with destinations including Boston, Tallahassee, Baltimore, Denver, Calagary, Alberta; Toronto, Ontario, and Frankfurt, Germany.
In total, over 2.7 million passengers traveled through Orlando International in October 2009, although calendar year-to-date, overall traffic is down 6.6 percent. Meanwhile, nationwide, passenger traffic fell 4.8 percent.
Orlando International Airport was recently named by the 2009 Zagat Airline Survey, as one of the top five airports nationwide for overall airport quality.
