OIA: International Travel in 2012 Breaks Previous Record

Orlando International Airport received a record 3.7 million international passengers in 2012, topping the previous record by 8.1 percent or about 282,000 travelers.Since 2009 international traffic has grown by more than 27 percent or about 806,000 passengers. The 2012 record marks six-straightyears of growth in international travel at MCO.

“We are very pleased that a record number of international travelers have chosen to make Orlando International Airport their choice as a gateway to the United States,” says Phil Brown, Executive Director of the Greater Orlando Aviation Authority, in a statement. “This strong international growth, over the past several years has contributed to our local economy and reaffirms our need for improvements to our federal inspection areas to make the entry process into the United States and Central Florida as passenger-friendly as possible.”

December 2012 Statistical Data: 

  • International traffic increased 6.7 percent with 345,395 total passengers
  • Domestic traffic remained stable with a 0.5 percent decline and 2,629,578 passengers
  • Overall traffic for December was up 0.3 percent with a combined 2,974,973 travelers

Year-end 2012 Statistical Data: 

  • International traffic increased 8.1 percent over the previous 2011 record with 3,784, 729 passengers
  • Domestic traffic declined 1.3 percent to 31 ,504,158 travelers
  • Overall, yearly traffic at Orlando International Airport was virtually unchanged with 0.4 percent (137,549) fewer travelers which is equal to less than 1.5 days of traffic on average for MCO.
  • Total passengers in 2012 at Orlando International Airport = 35,288,887
