Orange County Public Schools has launched a districtwide Parent Academy to promote parental involvement and enhance student achievement. In the first-ever OCPS Parent Academy, parents can register and attend several helpful break-out sessions to learn how to become full partners in their child’s education. The event theme is “Family Literacy.” Some of the classes include:
- Positive parenting
- Raising readers
- Understanding Common Core
- Mad kitchen science – fun while learning
- OCPS resources for you and your family
- Building the “home to school” connection
The OCPS Parent Academy “Family Literacy” event will be Saturday, September 28, 2013 at Robinswood Middle School, 6305 Balboa Dr. Orlando, FL 32818 from 8:30 a.m. until 2 p.m. Lunch will be provided. The keynote speaker is Dr. Adolph “Doc” Brown, a nationally-recognized education authority and master teacher. He is a first-generation high school graduate of a single mother reared in the poverty of a housing project who has great inspiration to share.
A “Kids Zone” will be available with fun activities for preschool and elementary students. Clifford, the Big Red Dog will make an appearance, and a school band will provide musical entertainment. It’s a day of fun mixed with important facts for families.
Registration is required. Parents may obtain a registration form from the OCPS Parent Academy website (www.parentacademy.ocps.net) or check with the main office at their child’s school to retrieve a registration form.
