Ocoee Police Arrest Driver Who Struck Fifth Graders and Fled

 

Crash--Wreck--Car-accident--generic---25177277A driver who Ocoee police say struck two fifth grade students riding home from school last week, was arrested on Friday.

Lastevie, V. Howard, 41, has been charged with leaving the scene of an accident involving personal injury and reckless driving with great bodily harm, Ocoee police said.

Fifth graders, Aubrey Clark and Jason El Ouadi, were riding their bikes on the sidewalk heading home from Citrus Oaks Elementary, when they were struck by Howard’s SUV near the intersection of North Clark Road and East Silver Star Road.

Aubrey was critically injured and remains in the ICU, having undergone surgery at the Arnold Palmer Children’s Hospital last night, to relieve swelling on her brain. Jason sustained minor injuries.

Police said, Howard was not under the influence of alcohol nor was there evidence of drug use at the time of the crash.

Howard was booked in the Orange County Jail on Friday afternoon. He is being held on $26,000 bond and could face additional charges.
