The White House on Wednesday, released President Obama’s long version of his birth certificate, in an effort to bring an end to the conspiracy theories and birther fringe who have long held that he’s not a natural born citizen.
Copies of the long form certificate were handed out by White House staffers in a press gaggle to reporters. The long version of the birth certificate confirms that the president was born in Honolulu, Hawaii on August 4, 1961. A short form of Obama’s certificate had been released back in 2008, when questions were raised about Obama’s legitimacy to run for presidency of the U.S. Born to a Kenyan father, birthers and fringe elements continued to peddle that Obama was instead born in that country.
Speaking from a White House podium, Mr. Obama said that he wouldn’t normally comment on the issue, as he had other things to do. Nonetheless, he said he was “puzzled” by the degree to which the matter of his place of birth was ongoing.
“I know that there’s going to be a segment of people for which, no matter what we put out, this issue will not be put to rest,” Obama said. “We don’t have time for this kind of silliness. We have better stuff to do. I have better stuff to do.”
Perhaps with Donald Trump in mind, Obama called out the fringe elements saying, “We’ve got some enormous challenges out there,” urging Americans not to be “distracted by sideshows and carnival barkers.”
Meanwhile, Trump, reacting idiotically to the release of Obama’s long version certificate said, “I am very proud to have played a role in this. I feel I’ve accomplished something really important.” Trump added that, experts will now examine Obama’s birth certificate to determine the legitimacy of the document.
Because Hawaii recognizes the short version birth certificate as valid, Obama needed a waiver to have the long form of his birth certificate released, for which the state granted an exception.
