Sanford Police, Agencies Announce Drug Take Back Program

On Saturday April 30, 2011, from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm, the Sanford Police Department and other Seminole County Law Enforcement Agencies will participate in the second DEA National Prescription Drug Take Back Initiative.

The one-day collaborative effort is aimed at removing potentially dangerous prescription drugs from citizen’s homes.

The take back imitative will provide a unified opportunity for the public to voluntarily surrender expired, unwanted, or unused pharmaceutically controlled substances and other medications to law enforcement officers for destruction.

Family members, friends and neighbors are encouraged to take advantage of this opportunity to discard unwanted prescription drugs from their homes.

Statistics indicate prescription drug abuse is on the rise in Florida. Seven (7) Floridians die each day in Florida from medication poisoning, with young children and teenagers claiming victim to accessible prescription drugs.

The collection site in Sanford will be located in the Lobby of the Police and Fire Headquarters Complex, located at 815 West 13th Street, Sanford.
