On Sunday, January 9, the Sheriff’s Office confirmed there were 20 rounds fired by suspected gunman Jared Lee Loughner which left 6 dead and 14 injured, 5 persons in critical condition, including Rep. Gabrielle Giffords at the University Medical Center in Tucson.
Those killed in the shooting rampage are:
- John Roll, 63, a federal district court judge.
- Gabriel Zimmerman, 30, Giffords’ director of community outreach
- Dorwin Stoddard, 76, a pastor at Mountain Ave. Church of Christ.
- Christina Greene, 9, a student at Mesa Verde Elementary
- Dorthy Murray, 76
- Phyllis Scheck, 79
Rep. Giffords was shot in the head by suspect Loughner, as she kicked off a meeting with constituents in the parking lot of a Safeway supermarket in Tucson on Saturday morning. Colleagues of Giffords said she convened such meetings all the time with her constituents in the 8th District. Saturday’s meeting was the first of many planned “Congress on your Corner” gatherings.
